Gabby’s Eats & Treats, located in Palisade Minnesota, is small 50’s themed restaurant that is owned by local county commissioner, Michael Kearney and his wife Gail. I had reached out to them to see if they’d be interested in updating their menu to reflect their brand better. After showing them a rough draft, they were so excited to work with me.
I wanted to maintain the retro 50’s aesthetic so I kept the color scheme simple so that it didn’t clash with their already established logo. It was important for the text to be easily readable by the older patrons as well. I made icons for their most popular menu items in Illustrator and organized the headings and body text in InDesign. The biggest challenge I had with this project was getting the checkered borders even with the page size.
Once it was nearly finished, I took it upon myself to order a menu holder so that I could show the owners exactly how it would be presented. I loved having the opportunity to give back to my community because they had given me so much support over the years.
